Razer SW:TOR Edition Gaming Mouse Pad Review

For us to test the performance of the mouse pad we will use a variety of mice, using either an optical or laser sensor, or a ball mouse. This is to test the compatibility, so on top of this, we will also test the mouse pad by playing some games using the different mice, as well as using them for general use. We know the whole topic of mouse pads is not terribly thrilling, so we’ll keep this short.

First up is gaming. For this we used a fast-paced FPS game to see if the pad could endure the rapid movements of the mice. Straight away we noticed how all of the mice glided like they were on ice, much more so than the soft material mouse pads we have in. All of the different sensors worked with the slick surface, including the ball mouse, which relies on friction to rotate the ball. As we mentioned before however, the lower sensitivity mice required more movement to move the cursor around the screen, so we often ran out of space on the small surface area of the SW:TOR edition mouse pad. This is a major problem for some of the more action packed, quick reaction games as precious split seconds where wasted moving the mouse around. This wasn’t such a big issue when we played Star Wars: The Old Republic, as this genre of game wasn’t as quick paced.

For general use, the issue mentioned in the gaming section didn’t really cause many issues, sure it was annoying, but it wasn’t much hassle. As with gaming, all the different mice performed exceptionally on the smooth surface, with no issues other than the one previously mentioned.

After long sessions using the mouse pad, it did become slightly uncomfortable due to the hard surface, but this was quickly cured by having a short break (as you should).  This is the biggest difference with a hard pad over a soft.

We also did a quick spill test on the pad, although we were already pretty much certain of the outcome before we did it, we still went ahead, and… as expected the liquid just ran off surface and was wiped off, leaving no stains or wet patches on the pad.
