RDR2 Players Send Abusive Messages To Real Colm O’Driscoll

RDR2 Players Send Abusive Messages To Real Colm O’Driscoll

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched last week and, it’s pretty fair to say, the game has been universally praised. In terms of scope and achievement, the game is a masterpiece praised by both critics and gamers. Yes, some don’t like the rather tedious ‘grind’ nature that the game has, but overall, it’s gone down well and is looking likely to take more than a few ‘game of the year’ awards.

What players are not taking kindly to, however, is the character Colm O’Driscoll. While I will not give you any spoilers here, let’s just say he’s (pretty much) your main antagonist in RDR2.

In a report via Eurogamer, however, people dislike the character so much that they’ve actually been sending him abusive messages. The only problem is that the Colm O’Driscoll who is receiving them just happens to be an Irish man who doesn’t even own a PlayStation or Xbox.

“Just Trolls Having Online Fun”

The real (as in living breathing) Colm O’Driscoll is taking most of it in good humour. As you can imagine though, while some messages are funny, others are just plain weird. He has said: “I find the whole thing kinda funny, but the messages are starting to get annoying. A little part of me worries that some of these people are so emotionally invested in the game that they’re starting to lose perception of what’s real and what isn’t.”

Avoiding spoilers, the in-game character is the leader of your rival gang. As such, he often does things to disrupt your gameplay. As such, you can imagine why people start to hate him when all you’re trying to do is explore the frontier.

So remember, you may not like the character, but that doesn’t mean you can bother real living people who just happen to share the name!
