Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of new details emerge about the upcoming Resident Evil Village (RE8) and, I have to admit, it’s so far looking set to be more than a little excellent. Just how good will it be, though? Well, following comments made by the game’s own developers, even they are already claiming that, in their opinion, it will represent “the best survival horror game to date”.
Coming in a report via PCGamesN, Capcom’s Peter Fabiano has been speaking about Resident Evil Village and, in his opinion, is going to make it one of the greatest releases the franchise has ever seen:
“We wanted to continue to have players experience the game through the eyes of protagonist Ethan Winters. This is a continuation of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard after all. This really helped to keep our vision on target. And since we are constantly sharing information across Resident Evil teams, that really helped inform us in making what we consider the best survival horror game to date.
You’ll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel,” he says. “There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.”
Of course, there is nothing new about a game developer getting a little excited (and at times hyperbolic) about their upcoming release. Based on everything we’ve seen so far, however, Resident Evil Village does appear to be shaping up to be a truly excellent addition to the franchise. It’s something that may have even initially surprised Capcom because, if the rumours are true, it was originally intended to be ‘Revelations 3’, but they thought it was ‘too good’ for just a spin-off franchise.
Resident Evil Village is set for release on May 7th, and if you want to learn more, you can check out the game’s official website via the link here!
