It is a dream many who grew up in the 80’s have: seeing a real-life Transformer. The cartoon of vehicle-morphing robots has spawned multiple movies that have earned billions of dollars and now it is a gigantic remote control toy. If you have the money now you can even own one as the first transforming robot made by Turkish start-up Letrons is up for auction in Abu Dhabi with a starting bid of $600,000. The transformer is currently on display at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre where Big Boys Toys is showcasing it and it has already received several bids so it will most likely fetch a lot more than that before the event ends on Saturday.
The Turkish Transformer is called “Antimon”, designed out of a BMW 3-series, although not entirely street legal at this point, it can be piloted by remote control up to 12 miles per hour once it has transformed to vehicle form.
It took Letrons 11 months and 12 engineers to create the giant red robot. It is also the first in a series that the group plans to create, with a goal of producing 12 overall. A street-legal version is also in the works, but the start-up is hoping that the success and exposure from “Antimon” will bring in investors that would make their idea a reality.
Maybe Michael Bay or Hasbro can invest in the company. After all just the most recent Transformers movie alone earned 1.104 billion USD and can easily fund the entire fleet of 12 being planned by the start-up.
