Hold your horses: the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed. Rockstar has announced that the game won’t be ready for its slated Autumn 2017 release, so has been pushed back until Spring 2018.
Rockstar Games says:
“Red Dead Redemption 2 is now set to launch Spring 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.
We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.”
As something of an apology for the release date delay, Rockstar has released some new images from the game:
The developer also promises more information this Summer, so expect a big presence at E3 2017.
On 18th October 2016, Rockstar officially announced Red Dead Redemption 2 with a teaser trailer:
Two days earlier, the developer’s website hinted at the new game with two Western-themed images:
In-between the tease and the trailer, the stock price of Take Two – Rockstar’s parent company – shot up by 6%. Following the trailer, it was revealed that the PS4 version of the game would include access to timed exclusive content. The game has been projected to sell around 12 million copies.
