Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Record-Breaking Weekend
There is little doubt that in terms of critical reception Red Dead Redemption 2 is a winner. At the time of writing it is well on course towards being many sources game of the year. With the vast majority of reviews placing the game at 9/10 or 10/10 there’s not a lot of people who seem to dislike this game. It would appear that this is a factor which has translated very well in terms of sales.
In a report via CNET, the sales for the game have been so good in fact that it has just set a brand new record for the best opening weekend for a game seen to date.
Major Sales
In the report, Rockstar has said that they believe that the game has sold for a figure around $725m just in the time between its launch on Friday until the following Sunday. That’s certainly not bad in terms of 3 days worth of sales!
In addition to this though, the game has also broken new PlayStation Network records. Namely, being the most pre-ordered game to date and providing the biggest ‘day one’ sales on record.
A Technicality Over The Record
While Red Dead Redemption 2 has taken the record for the best opening weekend, it’s not actually the best selling game over a 3 day period. That accolade goes to Grand Theft Auto V. Yes, on the whole, these records do paint a pretty picture for Rockstar Games. That being said though, with GTA V taking in around $1bn in its first 3 days, RDR2 had a pretty lofty bar to try and beat.
If you can’t beat a record, you might as well take liberties with it!
