Reddit Releases Official Smartphone App

Reddit, the self-proclaimed “front page of the internet”, has released its first official app for Android and iOS, and not before time. While reddit-loving mobile users have been well-catered for with a number of solid third-party smartphone apps – including BaconReader, reddit is fun, and Alien Blue, which was adopted by reddit as the de-facto official app since 2014 – waiting 11 years to release your first official app is a little tardy.

“This is the beginning of our journey with you, our app users. For everyone joining us on this ride,” writes Alex Le, reddit’s new Vice President of of Consumer Products, in a reddit announcement, “you can expect a lot of updates and new features that we’ll be rolling out to mobile first. Our first feature releases are getting prepared now and we’ll be updating at least once a month. Of course, if you already have an app you like, you’re free to continue enjoying it. We will continue to support our free public api.”

“Please give our new apps a spin and post love notes, feature requests, roasts, etc., to this thread. We’d love to hear what you think and will be incorporating feedback,” he added. “I will personally read each top comment (using the Speed Read button in our iPhone app!).”

Existing reddit users that download and log into Reddit for Android or Reddit for iPhone receive three free months of reddit Gold.
