News of Age of Empires getting a Definitive Edition remaster came out two months ago. Now Microsoft is announcing that the series is back in an even bigger way. Featuring Age of Empires IV, the long awaited continuation of the series which started over 20 years ago. The original games was by the now defunct Ensemble Studios, but Relic Entertainment is taking over the development duties on the new title.
The Canadian company is a well respected real-time strategy title developer, with works such as Homeworld, Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War. They seem to be the perfect choice for reviving the beloved RTS title. Together with the announcement, Microsoft released a trailer to tease fans on what to expect. While it does not show any actual gameplay so far, it does show several concept images. It depicts the historical battles which the players could find themselves involved in the game.
The Definite Edition is on the calendar for October 19. It will be an exclusive title for Windows 10 in the Windows store. Microsoft will also be following that up with Remastered Editions of Age of Empires II and III. Microsoft did not provide a release date yet for Age of Empires IV.
