According to Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, Microsoft is reportedly working on a cross-platform interface for Xbox Game Studios titles. This initiative aims to bring Xbox games to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, aligning with the company’s multi-platform strategy, which increasingly moves away from exclusivity.
The proposed interface, inspired by Battle.net’s social features, would enable cross-platform communication and integrate aspects of the Xbox ecosystem, such as cloud saves.
“Sources tell us that Microsoft is also working on a set of in-game APIs and user interface features, called Project Rainway, which is some form of cross-platform Xbox guide menu,” Corden reports.
Corden also highlights that the interface draws from Battle.net features in games like Hearthstone, Diablo 4, and World of Warcraft, enabling cross-platform sharing and communication. This approach ensures that games on other platforms retain Xbox-style features and functionality.
Microsoft and Xbox leadership have consistently emphasized plans to expand Xbox Game Studios titles beyond the Xbox Series X|S. CEO Satya Nadella recently reaffirmed this vision, stating the goal is to let users enjoy Xbox on all their devices.
