An anonymous developer posting on Reddit has stated he has seen evidence that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are both neck and neck in terms of pre-order sales. The developer claims to work for Microsoft and says that with regards to Sony’s recent 1.5 million sales announcement he has no doubt Microsoft have sold just as many.
“When I saw reports of Sony having a million or 1.5 million pre-orders for the PS4, I didn’t even think twice about it. We’re not disclosing pre-order numbers at the moment for accounting reasons but I know for a fact we have just as many.”
Of course we’ll probably be in the dark about who’s really won the launch battle of pre-order sales until both Sony and Microsoft disclose their full results. The problem at the moment is we are hearing conflictual results from different sources about “who is ahead”. The main reason for this is brand loyalty towards the PlayStation and Xbox varies by regions so most sources tend to reflect the preference of their region. Come the end of November and we’ll probably be able to find out who has really won the battle.
