Resident Evil 7 Won’t Support 21:9 Monitors

Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 is shaping up to be a big hit, and gamers have already asked for several extra features for it, including ultrawide monitor support and field of view sliders that go past 90. Unfortunately, it looks like Capcom will not be honoring these particular requests, which might be due to performance, gameplay, or even artistic reasons. Capcom’s representatives actually stated that the development team does not plan to support wide aspect ratio monitors, which is definitely not ideal as plenty of users are currently gaming on such monitors. As for the field of view limitation, there’s actually a pretty good explanation behind it:
“FOV capped at 90 degrees is a game design decision. The dev team explored potentially going wider after seeing feedback from the demo, but going wider introduces issues where certain objects, textures, etc. are then not fully rendered out for performance considerations. It will also have performance implications since going wider will introduce more objects into the scenery. Having too much peripheral vision for this type of game can also lessen the tension and atmosphere intended for the game.”
It’s worth noting that gamers can get past these restrictions using certain software, but doing so would definitely alter the game’s original .exe file, which is why a backup is always recommended.
