Resident Evil 9 Rumored to Feature Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy as Main Characters

This year, fans of Capcom franchises have been very happy, because during one of the company’s important events, the development of Resident Evil 9 was confirmed. This installment will supposedly close the trilogy that began in 2017 with the new first-person experience. And although not much information has been released about this installment, rumors have begun to circulate, which are related to the characters present in this new adventure of biological threats.

Familiar Faces Rumored to Return

A recent rumor suggests that Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy will be the main characters in this chapter, while Chris Redfield and Barry Burton will be supporting characters. According to information shared by Biohazard Declassified and detailed in a video by Residence of Evil, Jill Valentine is dressed more tactically, similar to her look in Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares, while Leon S. Kennedy appears similar to his look in Resident Evil: Damnation, yet noticeably older.

In this rumored storyline, Jill from BSAA and Leon from DSO investigate an island housing the company responsible for creating Eveline, where they are said to be producing mass clones of Eveline using the Megamycete. On this dangerous mission, Chris and Barry will support Jill and Leon via radio calls, with Chris supposedly mentioning Rosemary Winters and the intent to use her blood to create a vaccine for the island’s residents.

Main Plot and Island Setting

The setting, reportedly four years after Resident Evil: Village, takes place on an island filled with abandoned hospitals, caves, houses, dark forests, factories, laboratories, and even a temple. New enemy types are expected, including evolved Zombies similar to Ganados from Resident Evil 4, wielding melee weapons, and worshipping the moon with moon tattoos on their arms.

Another relevant detail is that Leon will be stalked by a constant enemy while Jill encounters the fearsome Goatman. Meanwhile, both Jill and Leon will be infected with the Megamycete, causing them to hear Eveline’s voice, a psychological twist adding to the eerie atmosphere. The main antagonist is said to be a character named Mr. Simon, overseeing the cloning operations.

Reports also claim that playtests were conducted in April and September of this year. April’s playtest reportedly featured a Jill section in an abandoned hospital, while September’s included Leon navigating through the dense forest. Resident Evil 9 will serve as the final chapter for the storyline surrounding the Megamycete, effectively concluding the events from Resident Evil 7 and Village.
