Respawn Entertainment is a company with interesting beginnings. Respawn Entertainment was founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella who were both high-up executives at Infinity Ward before being dismissed on March 1st 2010. The reasons for their dismissal aren’t fully known but Infinity Ward stated contract termination due to “breaches of contract and insubordination”. Just 6 weeks after being booted out of Infinity Ward they formed Respawn Entertainment, an independent gaming studio.
Once they founded their own independent gaming studio then they proceeded to seek funding for “Project Titan”. They did so by contacting Electronic Arts through their Partners Program and securing funding this way. Despite restructuring at EA that has caused EA to lay off staff and potential shut down its Partners Program, Respawn Entertainment have come out and publicly announced they haven’t suffered and it is business as usual.
“we’re just fine. No need to worry about us. Always sad to hear about layoffs other places though.” said Respawn via Twitter.
Since Respawn Entertainment are being funded by EA’s Partners Program, which sees EA partially fund them in exchange for being the publisher of the game, it was expected that EA’s restructuring might of impacted their new Project Titan. However, this is simply not the case which is great to hear. Respawn’s Project Titan is going to be a Sci-Fi oriented shooter designed to compete with Gears of War and Halo. So far we have only had the above blurred out screenshot so it is difficult to tell what’s coming from them.
Expect more information about Respawn Entertainment’s Project Titan during the EA E3 press event at E3 2013 in June.
What are your thoughts on Respawn Entertainment surviving unscathed? Do you think other EA Partners will suffer as a result? Or does this suggest speculation that EA is shutting down its Partners Program is untrue?
