With it looking increasingly likely that AMD will announce the launch of the Radeon RX 6600 XT on August 11th (with the standard 6600 to apparently follow a couple of months after) it’s already pretty well known, pending formal confirmation, that AMD will not be releasing any of their own reference models of this graphics card and will instead allow their custom AIB partners to do with it (both in terms of performance and aesthetics) pretty much as they wish. With such a release, however, it’s never unusual to see a few slithers of news regarding these models sneak out a little early.
Following a report via Videocardz, however, it would appear that a tech retailer in New Zealand may have jumped the gun a little as, for a brief time, they listed 3 separate 6600 XT models from PowerColor as available to order.
This isn’t, of course, the first time that we’ve seen a retailer get a little ‘click happy’ when it comes to new and anticipated tech release, what is curious, however, is that rather than just a placeholder (which we usually see in these instances) the retailer has gone on to not only suggest a release date but also state what appear to be some pretty firm prices.
Now, starting with the ‘shipping date’, while September 16th is entirely possible, we personally wouldn’t read too much into this. With all respect to our Kiwi fans out there, New Zealand isn’t exactly the most prioritised location when it comes to tech shipments. I mean, the 6600 XT might release on September 16th, but given the apparent August 11th launch date, we’d probably expect a more general worldwide release to be made well before the end of the month.
What about those prices though? Well, again we hit something of a problem. Based on various factors, in general, PC hardware in New Zealand isn’t as comparatively inexpensive as it is in most of the Western countries within the Northern hemisphere. Based on the prices seen here, it would indicate that the 6600 XT will cost something in the region of £600. And while that might well be proven to be the case thanks to the current stock/supply/scalper situation, we expect the official MSRP to be significantly less than this.
Given that the 6700 XT has a (currently totally unachievable) MSRP of £419.99, we’d expect the 6600 XT to come in at something around the £350-£375 area. Of course, though, it remains to be seen whether the market and retailers will actually allow that figure to be even mildly bordering on the reality we get. However, this leak again adds to the pile of ever-increasing information suggesting that the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT is literally just on the horizon!
