Retro FPS STRAFE Gets Release Date

Are you ready to pop heads like its 1996? You’d better be, because STRAFE is coming, and you’re gonna love it. Inspired by the likes of Quake, first-person shooter STRAFE from developer Pixel Titans throws the player back to the mid-nineties, as evoked by the game’s amazing “banned commercial” from two years ago:

While the pre-alpha build has been available for two years, the final version of STRAFE now has an official release date:

Pixel Titans’ Thom Glunt told TechRaptor that he hopes STRAFE arouses the same feeling as 20-year-old FPS games, but adds the surprise and wonder of modern titles, such as Spelunky.

“The idea for STRAFE® was birthed during our annual play through all of id’s early FPS’s [sic],” Glunt said. “We love those games for how they feel, they are great but they are almost 20 years old and there’s no longer any surprises. We miss the magic of jumping into a level and being scared or surprised! This is where Spelunky came in, another game I would boot up any time I had a meeting or phone call.”

STRAFE®’s environments and enemies tell a story,” he added. “The game is presented in a seamless format where they player drops into a bad situation with the goal of getting home alive. At the end of each level we have stats that you can check out but we aren’t pulling you out of the level and taking you to a new place, it’s a natural evolution between areas. We’re keeping the next two zones a secret for now as to not ruin the story.”

STRAFE is set for release on PC, Apple Mac, and PlayStation 4 on 28th March.
