RetroEngine Sigma Promises Classic Console Gaming in a Palm-Sized Device

The RetroEngine Sigma is a compact plug-and-play console designed to play classic games and function as a 4K media center as well. The project was initially launched at Kickstarter with a modest $20,000 goal to deliver the product to market but has now surpassed that by a significant margin of 793%. That is $158,549 USD raised by 2091 backers so far with a month left for the campaign. Unlike other classic console gaming platforms, the RetroEngine Sigma can play a multitude of games ranging from the Amstrad and ATARI 2600 all the way through to more modern consoles and arcade machines via emulator. It is designed to have a straightforward setup, requiring no technical knowledge from the user so it is accessible to almost everyone.
The RetroEngine Sigma’s design is almost reminiscent of the SEGA CD although it is palm-sized and is quite compact at 110 x 85 x 33.5mm. Inside is a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor running at 1.2GHz with a MALI 400 MP2 GPU and 512MB of DDR3 RAM. It sips power via a 5V/2A power supply and is powerful enough that it can function as a media player as well supporting media library management with KODI, 4K playback via HDMI port and streaming capability with integrated 802.11b/g/n/ WiFi. Since it has two USB ports, users can plug in the controller of their choice including keyboards and mice. It can even function as a mini-computer.
It can be purchased currently via the RetroEngine Sigma’s IndieGoGo campaign page for as little as $59 + shipping for the 16GB set which includes the RetroEngine Sigma with AC adaptor, dual stick analog controller, 16GB MicroSD card and USB card reader. It ships with 15 pre-installed, branded games playable out of the box
