Revived THQ Nordic has Big Plans for Nintendo Switch

Game studio THQ Nordic, which resurrected the THQ brand after Nordic bought a whole stack of intellectual properties from the now-defunct developer after its liquidation in 2012, is getting itself in fighting shape in time for the release of the Nintendo Switch. THQ Nordic has snapped up a number of old titles which it intends to revive for Nintendo’s new console.

THQ Nordic has acquired the following properties:

  • Sphinx (and the Cursed Mummy); Mobile Gaming Studios Ltd. – A third person action-adventure video game inspired by the mythology of Ancient Egypt. It was originally released for Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube.
  • War Leaders: Clash of Nations (Enigma Software Productions S.L.) – A turn-based global strategy game bundled with a real-time tactics game mode for PC.
  • Legends of War (Enigma Software Productions S.L.) – A turn-based strategy video game series franchise created in 2010. It was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable.

“These are not financially material acquisitions, but due to our love for these types of games they were natural acquisition targets that add up to our portfolio,” Lars Wingefors, founder and group chief executive officer or THQ Nordic, said. “Moreover, we also got a lot of messages from fans that encouraged us to add them. Among these titles, Sphinx (and the Cursed Mummy) is very well suited for the Nintendo audience – which we love to support. We are excited for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo’s new platform, and already have two other projects in development for it.”

There’s no word on whether THQ Nordic intends to bring the Darksiders and Red Faction franchises to the Switch, but the studio promises that it will reveal more of its plans for the Switch very soon.
