RevoNext RN-QT3 Quad-Driver In-Ear Headphones Review

A Closer Look and Performance

First up, let’s take a closer look at this custom cable. It uses the same 3.5mm to dual 0.78mm 2 pin headers as their previous models. It’s not uncommon either, and I’ve seen these same cables used on in-ear monitors and similar high-end audio hardware. Headphone cables tangle, they snag, the break. with a detachable cable, you’re far less likely to rip the cable or suffer a breakage. Furthermore, if you do, you could easily replace it, as these cables are readily available in all shapes, sizes and colours.

The connectors are quite compact but very secure and durable. They use a compression fitting base, so they’ll fit snug into the drivers. Of course, they’re strong enough not to fall out. However, if you did happen to snag the cable on your arm, a door, or something like that, it would pull out the cable rather than damage the cable; a nice feature actually. You’ll notice a U shape bend here too, as the cable is meant to loop over the top of your ears.

The cable has a durable sleeving and a twisted core, ensuring it’s thin and very strong.

On the other end, there is a 3.5mm jack, with a slim mount. This is good, as it won’t conflict with most phone cases and other accessories.

Quad Drivers!

The drivers are pretty cool looking, and feature a durable metal housing with three Torx screw fittings securing it all together. I suspect they’re purely aesthetic though, I wouldn’t go opening them up as you’re likely to break something.

On the bottom, you’ll find the compression fittings for the audio cable. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but be sure to match up the L and R channels to the appropriate drivers, but that’s common sense of course.

The earbuds are angled slightly down, so that when you wear the drivers, they’ll fully sit within your ear, with the earbuds angled down into your eardrum. This gives you a little passive noise suppression, but not as much as I would like. There are other headphones on the market that offer better ambient noise suppression but that’s not what these ones are about.

With a quad-driver design, they’re tuned to offer a clean response across the full audio range. What’s most impressive is how much bass they can throw out. However, if they’re not properly installed in your ears, they quickly sound quite treble heavy. This is easily fixed by ensuring you wear the best fitting earbuds.

Removable Ear Buds

Pop off the stock ones, and try on the others see how they each sound for you. Back to the bass though. Driving some movies and music through them, the bass response will play down to about 30 Hz. That’s pretty damn low, and you get a big subwoofer level punch from them. However, it’s not overpowered at all, and if anything the bass is clean and tight. At the same time, the treble is a bit bright but crammed full of detail that really brings out the best in acoustic, classical and spoken word. It works great for movie dialogue too. The midranges are cut a little bit, I think, but pushing the EQ up slightly in the mid ranges really brought in a lot of texture and warmth to the sound. Of course, that’s subjective, but that’s my take on it.

The sound quality is really on point here, far more than it should be at this price range. Are they audiophile grade? That’s subjective, I think they sound a little bright at times, but only in a way that brings out even more detail in the high-end of the sound. With the right amp or the right EQ, I think they can hold their head up high next to the big named brands and more expensive headphones. I’d go with 99% of the thrills for 25% of the price.

The fast and tight bass response is impressive though, and for big action movies, or listening to thumping heavy metal with rapid drums and thundering guitars, they’ll put a big grin on your face; as they did mine.
