Are you eagerly awaiting the 3rd season of Rick & Morty? We know we are! However, while the team is no doubt busy on that project, it seems they’re branding out, as series co-creator Justin Roiland, as well as Tanya Roiland, a former Epic Games Producer, have been working on their own VR gaming studio.
The perfectly named Squanchtendo will be working on VR content for the usual major VR platforms, following on from Roiland’s idea to do so for several years now. “A gamer his whole life, he awoke to the idea of doing game design once he played with an Oculus DK2 headset,” according to Squanchtendo’s mission statement. “We want to make stuff that people love. Games that we want to play ourselves. Experiences that we would like to be totally immersed in and enjoy for hours at a time, as well as shorter, crazier experiences that would be great to play with a group of friends or possibly with stray homeless people that you invited in so you could feed and bathe them.” it continues.
To save confusion, VR game Virtual Rickality will still be coming from Owlchemy Games, the same team that did Job Simulator. Squanchtendo, on the other hand, will work on new IPs for VR. Will any of this play from their existing work with Rick & Morty? We don’t know, but given their history, we’re expecting great things.
