BRING BACK THE SAUCE!
A running joke following the end of the unexpected Season 3 debut of Rick and Morty, people really do seem to want their szechuan sauce. The demand was so high that McDonald’s even briefly did bring back the sauce.
Well someone has decided to cash in by selling a bottle of the sauce in a custom case. Bidding has ended with a ridiculous final figure of over $15,000. Some people really want it back!
Szechuan Sauce – Just $15,000 a bottle
In addition to McDonald’s bringing their szechuan sauce, they did run a brief competition offering customers the opportunity to win a 64 oz bottle. One eBay user was lucky enough to win the sauce and promptly decided to sell it on.
When the series was announced and the episode premiered, I’m sure no one expected the hype would get this crazy.
Dark_Falcon listed the product saying: “This auction is a real special one, as it’s for an OFFICIAL McDonald’s 64 oz. bottle of Szechuan sauce, brought back as a promotion for the newest season of Rick and Morty. TheDCD was one of the four people in the world to win one of these (besides series creator Justin Roiland), and it’s being sold here to settle some bills and help out a couple of charities in the process.”
It certainly beats an exquisite corpse animation of the show. Then again, that’s still well worth watching, check it out here.
That’s a lot of money for some Szechuan Sauce!
Well, considering you can buy a bottle of Heinz for about £2, yep.
In fairness, it has been sold with money going towards charity and the sale did include a neat custom Rick and Morty case.
The item received over 100 bids and eventually sold for a total price of $15,350.00
This reminds me of Fry on Futurama when he bought the last tin of anchovies. Do you think the purchaser of this item will share it with his friends? A bit like some wines, this might now be too expensive to actually taste.
The world sure is a crazy place!
