Rising Thunder Cancelled by Riot Games

Remember when we told you about Rising Thunder? You know, the free-to-play PC fighting game that was supposed to be based on cooldowns instead of combos? Unfortunately, it looks like the game won’t make it onto our hard discs after all, as it was cancelled not too long ago by Riot Games. Riot Games has purchased Radiant Entertainment, the company that was responsible for the game’s development, and it has decided to shut down this project and reassign the team on another, yet unannounced title. Even though Rising Thunder never made it out of its Alpha stage, I think that it definitely showed quite a bit of promise, especially since it was created by ex-Capcom combat advisor and game designer Seth Killian.

The game was powered by Unreal Engine 4 and GGPO3, and even though it seemed to lack the quality of titles such as Mortal Kombat X or Street Fighter V, I think it would have made a decent free-to-play online fighting game. Regarding the cancellation and its future plans for Radiant Entertainment,  Riot Games has issued the following statement:

“As for Rising Thunder, the team will start work on a new game that we’re incredibly excited about. We wish we could say more now, but rest assured you’ll hear more when the time is right. For now, we will be permanently closing Rising Thunder on March 18th. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha!”
