Roblox Takes Action on Child Safety with New Parental Controls Amid Security Concerns

In response to recent security concerns for young users, Roblox is stepping up efforts to protect children on its popular platform. The company, which boasts over 70 million active users, is introducing advanced parental controls, age-appropriate content labeling, and improved monitoring options aimed at creating a safer virtual experience for its youngest players.
Enhanced Parental Controls and Safety Guidelines
Following internal discussions and an email reportedly shared with Roblox staff, the platform has outlined several new security measures. These steps include Parental Controls that give guardians more control over what their kids can access within Roblox. Parents will soon have options to limit certain interactive experiences and chat features for children under 13. For kids under nine, “moderate” content, like scenes featuring mild violence or crude humor, will require parental approval before access is granted.
In a bid to help parents better understand the type of content on Roblox, the company is also rolling out virtual labels based on recommended ages for all in-game experiences. This initiative follows similar systems, such as PEGI and ESRB, and aims to set clearer boundaries for younger audiences.
A New Parent Account System to Monitor Usage
To further support families, Roblox will introduce a new Parent Account option, giving parents real-time insights into their children’s activities. With this account type, parents can review daily game time, see friend lists, and receive updates on their child’s engagement within the Roblox platform.
These efforts reflect Roblox’s aim to stay ahead in ensuring child safety online. As Roblox continues to grow, these proactive steps could mark a new era of security for virtual spaces frequented by younger users.
