Gaming peripheral manufacturer Roccat have announced their first game called ‘Sick City’, developed entirely in house via their Roccat Gaming Studios. Sick City is a real-time action tactical-combat game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Players can hold 4v4 squad-based street fights and resource control, vying for domination in Sick City. It features a distinctly Roccat art-style and thoroughly unique character designs.
The game itself presents a unique twist to the real-time action tactical-combat genre. It draws inspiration from classic games such as ‘Commandos’ with their espionage manoeuvres and we all remember how great that set of games were. It also takes cues from the direct action of Company of Heroes, minus the time-consuming construction. This is a game that is fast paced and has not been experienced before.
A closed Alpha will start in June, with Roccat promising to deeply integrate player feedback into the core development of the game. When asked why they are doing this, Roccat founder and CEO René Korte stated:
“In the peripheral sector, we have increasingly involved the community in the development of our products. The Sova and the Modulok being prime examples. Gamer input was a key factor in making Sova a success, and building out the final Modulok concept. Player input in the development process is the future, and we’re applying that to our game development process. Sick City is a competitive title, we design competitive products. It only makes sense to bring the competitive gaming community into our dev process.”
Roccat is asking for development veterans and experienced gamers to catch bugs and also provide feedback so that Roccat can continue to develop the game further. Roccat requires input about all aspects of the game: map design, factions, game types, gameplay and more. After the Alpha ends, as a result, an Early Access program will follow which is open to everyone.
It seems like this could be a great move for Roccat yet we have seen similar from rival manufacturer MadCatz when they developed War Wings: Hell Catz but sadly that lead to bankruptcy just over a month ago.
