Final Thoughts

How Much Does it Cost?

The Roccat Horde AIMO Membranical RGB Gaming Keyboard is available now for around £80 on Amazon. However, it does have an MSRP of £90, so keep an eye out for those cheaper deals! That still a lot of money, but it’s still also one of the most affordable Roccat keyboards ever, which are often well over £100.

Overview

There’s a lot to love about this keyboard, even though it’s not perfect, but how many keyboards are for everyone? I’m genuinely asking, respond in the comments. For a non-mechanical keyboard, I think the price is quite high, but it’s clear that Roccat has gone the extra mile to include some unique features to justify that. If anything, the main competition is the Romer-G range from Logitech which casts the same but lacks a wrist rest, multimedia controls and macros…

Why Not Mechanical?

This is the Horde’s worst nightmare right now at this price point. You can pick up some pretty darn fine entry to mid-level mechanical keyboards. However, mechanicals are much noisier to type on, which I do prefer, just great for gaming and for the most part offer superior RGB lighting at this price point. Again though, at this price point the feature set of the Horde is up there with flagship mechanicals and around half the price of the top end Roccat, Corsair, and many other brands best models.

Performance

The raw performance of the Membranical switches is spot on, and for working and gaming, I can’t fault them. They have a short actuation point, and a nice and snappy return that benefits fast keystrokes. The inclusion of those macro keys and the SWARM software is a big benefit too. You can quickly set gaming profiles and shortcuts as needed and easily toggle through them if you change games and tasks often.

Build Quality

The keyboard looks fantastic, no doubt about that, and while it does have a lot of plastic on show, it’s beautifully finished. It looks and feels like a premium quality product. The USB cable is durable and braided, which is great, but perhaps a removable USB cable would be better at this price range. The two-tone black and grey is by far my favourite, although a white and a black variant are available for the same price.

Pros

  • Stylish and unique aesthetics
  • Dedicated macro keys
  • Fully programmable through SWARM software
  • Multimedia controls
  • Tuning Wheel
  • Braided cable
  • Three colour options
  • Fast and quite membranical keys

Cons

  • RGB lighting isn’t as bright as it should be

Neutral

  • A detachable USB cable would be preferred
  • Expensive for a “membrane” keyboard, but affordable considering the number of features
