The Roccat Kave XTD Stereo Gaming Headset is available from most major retailers for £65-75, which puts it fiercely against stiff competition from Roccat’s own Kave 5.1, the Razer Kraken Pro and the Kingston HyperX Cloud II to name but a few, which all have their strengths and weaknesses compared to the Kave XTD.
Overview
Roccat makes great quality products, that much is immediately evident when you get hands on with the Kave XTD. One of this headsets strongest selling points, literally, is the overall build quality. The Kave XTD is a robust bit of hardware, more than capable of taking a few knocks and bumps, the headband can be twisted to an extreme angle without causing any issues what so ever and the overall finish of the plastics, any fittings and joints are all immaculate. As an added bonus, the headset also looks pretty cool. It’s not such a loud design that it would draw attention to you, but it’s smart enough to you wouldn’t mind being seen wearing it.
Sounds quality is very good overall, especially when gaming and while it doesn’t have that “wow” excitement factor for me while listening to music or watching movies, it’s really about on par with other headsets in this price range. Distortion free sound, clear chat audio and a comfortable over-ear fit with noise cancelling to help reduce ambient noise; more than enough to justify the price tag.
There are just two parts of this headset that I think need to be improved. The maximum volume could be a little bit higher and the in-line controller could have separate chat and game volume dials. While the headset is great in its own respect, these two additions would really make this an editors choice award for me, but for now the Kave is still great for gamers who use a lot of team chat.
Pros
- Exceptional build quality
- Very comfortable fit
- Noise cancelling
- Detachable and 360-degree positional microphone
- Nice aesthetics
Cons
- Max volume could be higher
- No chat volume control on in-line controller
“A great looking gaming headset that will no doubt satisfy the needs of any competitive gamer. The Kave XTD features crystal clear chat audio and noise cancelling technology will help you communicate with your team, even in a noisy environment such as LAN gaming events and tournaments – which could be the difference between victory and defeat.”
Thank you Roccat for providing us with this sample.
