Roccat Kiro Modular Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Roccat Kiro Modular Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse is available from CCL Computers for just £38.64, this is great value for money given the range of features on offer and the sensor performance, making it a competitive entry in the sub-£50 price category, and an attractive product for quite a large part of the gaming market.

Overview

Roccat has never failed to deliver a great gaming mouse in the past, and I’m happy to say that the Kiro is no exception. It ticks all the right boxes in terms of features to be competitive in a very crowded peripherals market, and it manages to stay within an affordable price bracket, making it very competitive against rival gaming mice of a similar specification.

The sensor performance is fantastic and is going to be well suited to everyone. eSports gamers, those who want to do fine work in Photoshop, or even just for day-to-day web browsing, it’s a solid all-rounder in this respect. Add to that the customisable button configuration and you’re quickly able to tune the setup to suit your needs, especially when it comes to gaming as you can get the shortcuts and macros you need, when and where you need them most.

The ambidextrous design is a joy to use and I love the swappable side panels, as you can make it a truly left or right-handed mouse within seconds. I personally prefer to keep the stock side panels, as having the dual side buttons on each side of the mouse leaves you with more options for shortcut keys, but that’s really a subjective matter and it’s nice that you can set it up to a configuration that best suits your own needs with minimal fuss.

Build quality is very good and the lightweight design, combined with the excellent glide provided by those large slipmats makes it a fast and nimble mouse that’s perfect for twitch shooters. Even the cable is lightweight, meaning you’ve got less chance of it interfering with the movement of the mouse. The switches are snappy and responsive, perfect for MOBA style gameplay where you often find yourself left-clicking furiously.

Added bonuses like the RGB lighting, mobile application for stat-tracking, Alien-FX for pairing the lighting system with an Alienware PC’s lighting and more are just welcome bonuses that add to the overall value and it certainly doesn’t hurt to have more features.

Pros

  • Competitive price
  • Smooth and accurate sensor
  • Lightweight and nimble design
  • Great ergonomics
  • Side panel customisation
  • Fully programmable buttons
  • RGB lighting

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • RGB lighting is limited to the rear logo, some more customisation of mouse wheel lighting or elsewhere would be nice
  • Sensor performance at 4000DPI has a little jitter, but it’s negligible for these speeds
