The Roccat Kone EMP gaming mouse is available from most major retailers right now. You can pick one up at Overclockers UK for just £69.95. That’s not cheap, but it’s certainly competitive when you look at the level of features and the build quality on offer.
There are a lot of great gaming mice on the market, although I do think a lot of them are very similar in terms of features and aesthetics. Roccat do cut their own path with their products, and they’ve always stood out from the crowd a little more than most. The Kone XTD was an innovative design and a real attention grabber when it launched. Despite not really changing the aesthetics at all, the EMP is still every bit as cool looking today, and I’m actually quite glad they kept the design the same.
It’s also the same as the original price of the Kone XTD. The same price, but with a lighter body that makes the mouse feel faster and more nimble. It also has a greatly improved sensor, removing the old 6400 DPI Pro Optic R5 sensor. The new Roccat EMP uses a greatly improved ROCCAT Owl-Eye Optical Sensor, delivering 12000 DPI and giving you a greater DPI range to play around with. It’s unlikely most will use the extremely low and high options, but having more options is no bad thing.
The RGB lighting looks great, but I was hoping for a few more improvements to the colour options and effects. Competitors mice offer more colour range, and more effects, and to a certain degree, more vivid LEDs too. They don’t look bad, but RGB lovers have a lot of options on the market that outpace what the EMP has to offer. I’m not too fussed myself, as I’ll set the lights to red, and leave them there, and the EMP has no issues with that.
Roccat Swarm is one of the best suites on the market. It offers extensive customisation for the mouse that’s accessible for beginners, but with plenty of features for eSports and enthusiasts. The Shift+ function is great too, allowing you to add even more macros and buttons to the mouse, giving you all the tools you need for work and gaming.
