Roccat Kone Pure Optical Mouse Review

Final Thoughts
This mouse was never going to disappoint me, it is a Roccat product that we already know and love with what I can only describe as a much better sensor. It is true that optical sensors are a matter of preference, but since I don’t actually need a 8200DPI range, 4000 DPI will do me nicely. It just feels like it tracks better in day to day use and gaming, maybe it’s a little too subtle a difference for some to notice, but I do know I like it. The sensor lacks any issues with acceleration and prediction, making it incredibly accurate and anyone who gives a damn about gaming performance, competitive eSports and online gaming, especially FPS players, are going to love this mouse. I would throw out my Kone XTD and use this mouse all day long, if it weren’t for one major issue and one minor issue that I just cannot ignore.
The major issue is size, this is a mid-size mouse and for me that is a big (erm, little) problem. I have big hands and it’s just too small for me. Your average young gamer will likely love the ergonomics but for me it’s just not suitable for my wide palms and long fingers and becomes uncomfortable after a few hours usage. This is why I use their huge Kone XTD mouse.
The minor issue is the glide of the mouse. On softer surfaces the mouse has more drag than I would like and while some may like the control this provides I would suggest you use this mouse on a smoother or harder surface to get a better amount of glide. Roccat did provide me with a sample of their Meteor Blue mouse mat (review coming soon) for testing and this did give great glide, the two products work very well together.
Of course there are two things wrong with my two issues with this mouse, they’re both subjective and personal. Get the right mouse mat and the glide is fine, have big hands? Buy a bigger mouse, problem solved. I can’t really mark the mouse down for it not being suitable for me, as it does exactly what Roccat promised and its performance is first class throughout.

- Doesn’t glide well on softer surfaces
“Combining the best mouse software around with faultless build quality and design makes the Roccat Kone Pure Optical one of the best gaming mice on the market. Now all Roccat need to do is make a full size version of this and they’ll truly have something for everyone”
Thank you Roccat for providing us with this sample.
