Roccat Kova Optical Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse Review

Performance
The sensor on the Kova is simply amazing, from low DPI, right up to a boost 7000 DPI (the sensor is rated for 3500DPI), it managed to output consistently smooth, jitter-free results, with no lag or angle snapping. You couldn’t ask for anything better than this.
Roccat’s desktop software for the Kova, Swarm, is one of the best in the business. It offers up a huge range of features and customisation options in an easy to understand format and allows you to tune the mouse to suit your needs. Since the mouse has onboard memory, all settings and profiles can then be saved directly to the mouse, so you don’t need the software loaded all the time, or can take your mouse and settings with you to a gaming tournament easily.
The RGB lighting customisation is pretty cool, offering up a separate colour adjustment to the mouse wheel, as well as a wide light at the back of the mouse that gives it a cool under glow effect.
The grip feels really comfortable to use, providing excellent grip and ergonomics. The button layout feels natural and the addition of those wing switches, as well as dual side buttons, means you’ve got easy access to extra commands such as macros and launchers, or anything you want to set them as really. Roccat say this mouse is best suited for FPS and MOBA game types, and I must admit it does excel at these due to its lightweight and nimble design, as well as the pixel perfect sensor accuracy.
The switch response is well suited to gaming, as they’re light, fast, have a great return rate, as well as a nice tactile and audible click. This means you can fire off rapid clicks with confidence, and that’s going to bring a noticeable benefit to FPS and MOBA gaming, where things can often get quite frantic.
MMO gaming works well here too, as you do have a good amount of buttons to customise and that means plenty of room for extra macros for those more demanding gaming tasks; I found it worked really well while playing Elder Scrolls Online. All the gaming stuff aside, however, this is still a great gaming mouse for day-to-day work too. If you want to spend all day browsing the web or working, it’ll perform great. When the evening comes around, just switch out to your gaming profiles and you’re ready to rock.
