Roccat Kulo Stereo Headset Review

PerformanceAs this is such a simple device it is easy to just plug in and it will work just like your iPod headphones. That said, there are a lot of advantages to a headset that can just be plugged in, especially when most people only have an audio output and a microphone output on their laptop. Even more useful is that most cases have a microphone and audio output on the front so you can even plug this headset in without having to get at the back of your case.

The sound quality when playing music or listening to films is very very impressive for a headset of this size. It can’t, not really surprisingly, compete with its larger counter-parts, but that said it certainly gives it a go. Somehow they have managed to fit in 40mm Neodymium Magnet Drivers which certainly provide a ‘gutsy bass and crystal-clear trebles’ – we couldn’t phrase it better ourselves. There is a very serious bass that is produced by this headset and at times it is like being punched in the ear; however the bass quality is a bit weak as it doesn’t have the rich warmth and depth that other headsets produce. The rest of the sound range is unbelievably clear, and you will hear every word of every song with a lot more clarity than other headsets and this goes for its larger more expensive counterparts.

Comfort is always an interesting topic with regards to headsets and I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable this headset was. When you first see the ear cups that just rest on top of your ears you expect it to dig in as such but they are cushioned more than satisfactorily. The headband while small does not give any discomfort even after prolonged use. The main reason this headset is so comfortable to wear is that they are extremely light and you hardly notice that you are wearing them as there is no real pressure exerted by the headset.

The microphone is also meant to be noise-filtering and although I couldn’t fully put this to the test, it does certainly work with clarity over Skype and other communication methods. This makes this headset a perfect combination for those of us who use Skype and also like to listen to music and play games although it will never compete with the larger gaming headsets.
