Roccat Leadr Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The MSRP of the Roccat Leadr is actually £129.99. However, since it’s been on the market a while now, it’s down to just £106.79 on Amazon.co.uk. Furthermore, in the US it’s just $139.99, but I have seem a few stores selling them for $99 on Amazon so shop around. That makes it slightly cheaper or around the same price as key rivals from Razer (Mamba Pro), Logitech (G Pro), SteelSeries (Rival 650) and Corsair (Dark Core).

Overview

You’re spoilt for choice in the high-end wireless gaming mouse market. All the big names have something to offer. From mid-range £50-60, things are quite competitive, albeit mostly similar. However, in these £100-150 gaming titans, the flagship gaming mice are very much unique from their rivals. Each offer fantastic sensors, unique button configurations, and low latency. However, which is right for you? Well, that’s really subjective. The Roccat Leadr isn’t better than the rest, but it is different.

Design

It’s a really well-designed mouse, even if it does look like it’s been somewhat over-designed. It feels comfortable and easy to use. Compared to the old Razer Naga type mice with loads of buttons, it’s endlessly more practical. I mean, it’s based pretty much entirely on the Tyon, which was a smart move from Roccat, as that’s my favourite mouse. They have done more than just throw in wireless tech though.

Refined

Not only have Roccat added wireless technology, but they went further and added that stunning dock mount. That’s a nice addition and something you don’t get with every rival product. Plus, it can still be used wired, which is a huge bonus. In a bid to refresh the design, the RGB strip is now gone, replaced by an equally gorgeous chrome inlay, and the RGB is now on the rear logo, which looks even better too. If that wasn’t enough, the new Optical sensor trumps the old laser one, at least in my opinion.

Should I Buy One?

It’s hard to recommend a mouse that costs over £100, it really is. I think if you want a great Roccat gaming mouse, get the Tyon. It’s perfect for MMORPG, FPS, MOBA, or even just Premier and Photoshop work. However, if you want the same mouse, but with a better sensor, more connectivity options and don’t mind paying a premium; follow the Leadr!
