Roccat MAGMA AIMO RGB Gaming Keyboard Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Roccat MAGMA AIMO RGB Gaming Keyboard is available now from most of the big-name retailers, and it’s surprisingly affordable too. It’ll cost you just £49.99, which is fantastic value for money, given the overall level of features and the utterly unique design. Furthermore, I think it’ll go great with the Roccat Burst Pro, which is also £49.99. Overall though, the keyboard is around half the price of their most affordable mechanical keyboard, the Pyro.

Overview

Roccat is one of the coolest gaming brands on the market, and quite honestly, the Roccat MAGMA AIMO RGB is just about all the proof that you’ll need. A keyboard at this price range that looks this good is just too good a deal to pass up. Admittedly, it has some solid competition though. The MSI VIGOR GK30, the Corsair K55 RGB Pro, and the Razer Cynosa V2 are all broadly the same price, and all have a more conventional per-key RGB configuration. However, that’s exactly why the Magma is the coolest of the bunch.

Performance

When it comes to the performance, the Roccat MAGMA AIMO RGB feels about the same as most other plunger switch membrane keyboards. The keys have a nice pop to them, a fast return rate, and overall they’re pretty quiet too. Actually, I’d say its rivals are just as good, or this is just as good as its rivals, it’s right on the money either way.

However, added features really push it to the next level. For starters, it has that massive and very comfortable wrist rest, which makes it so much nicer to use, but also adds to the aesthetics. As well as lots of rubber grips that keep it well planted, even when really bashing at the keys.

Roccat’s Easy-Shift[+] is a welcome addition too, as it’s one of the most versatile macro engines out there, and can even provide secondary functions to other Roccat peripherals. For example, you can have a DPI adjustment on the keyboard, or an FN-Shift for a mouse button to have a secondary feature; very handy!

Aesthetics

This is by far one of the coolest looking keyboards I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing quite like it, and just moving the RGB away from the switches completely changes the aesthetic. It’s actually impressive how many colours you get and how dynamic the effects are, given that it has just 10 RGB LED lights over 5 zones. Who knows, perhaps they’ll do a bonkers mechanical version with even more lights and zones in the future. Actually, I kind of hope they do.

Should I Buy One?

It’s rare a peripheral really stands out from the crowd, but Roccat has certainly achieved it. The performance is perfectly competitive, but the overall build quality and design take it to the next level. So if you want to stand out from the crowd without breaking the bank, the Roccat MAGMA AIMO RGB Gaming Keyboard is a winner!
