Price
The Roccat Renga Stereo Gaming Headset is currently unavailable at the time of writing this review but is expected to land at most major retailers towards the end of February (2016), with a suggested RRP of £49.99/49.99EUR. This is pretty good value for money given the build quality, design and features, and should prove very competitive in this price range.
Overview
Roccat has proven once again that they know how to make a great bit of hardware. The Renga may not be the most feature-packed, over the top or expensive gaming headset we’ve ever seemed, but in its respective price range, it ticks all the right boxes for a well-rounded headset. While it may be marketed as a gaming headset, no shock given that Roccat is a gaming brand, it’s really a lot more than this. Throughout my testing, I found it to be just as adept for enjoying movies, music, working through Skype calls and more, as much as I did using it for gaming. Some gaming headsets seem to, for lack of a better word, suck at anything other than gaming, but the Renga is adept at any task, which is a sign of great quality drivers and design.
The only shortfall for this headset is the maximum volume, it feels a little restricted and could do with having just a bit more power to give you that extra punch when you really want it. However, that being said, the sound quality is simply flawless. The distortion free sound really brings out the details in your media of choice and it’ll still put a smile on your face when playing your favourite game, listening to your favourite album, etc.
The biggest win for Roccat today is the ergonomics of this headset. It is by far one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve ever worn and this becomes even more apparent after a long gaming session as it’s so light that you can forget you’re wearing it. The headband distributes the weight of an already lightweight headset very well, the ear cup padding is soft and the open back design keeps your ears comfortable and ventilated.
Build quality is exceptional, not only does it looks great, but it feels great too. Good quality leathers, a premium quality finish to any plastic components and rubber sleeved tangle free cables are all welcome additions and only add to the already great value of the headset.
Pros
- Durable build quality
- Auto-adjusting headband
- Crystal clear sound
- In-line controller
- Sleeved cables
- Multi-format support
- Exceptionally comfortable fit
- Affordable
Cons
- Maximum volume could be higher. If Roccat fix this, I’ll upgrade this to an Editor Choice Award product
