Price
The Roccat Skeltr is packing a huge amount of features, so it does come with a mighty premium on its price tag. You can pick one up from Box for £149.99, which is enough to make your eyes water, but with the mobile support features, it’s still a decent return on investment.
Overview
The price is pretty darn high on this keyboard, which I think is going to put off a lot of people from buying one, but for those of you who aren’t put off at the price tag, this is one fantastic gaming keyboard and worthy of a space on your desktop. The Skeltr is a little bit different to most other keyboards on the market, and that’s partly why I love it so much.
The PC performance of this keyboard is as good as they come, and it’s by far the best membrane keyboard I’ve ever used, and that’s not an easy thing to say given my love for mechanical keyboards. It’s fast, responsive and it’s great to type on, as much as it is competitive when it comes to gaming. That addition of a powerful macro engine, as well as dedicated macro keys means it’s just as good in the office as it is for complex MMORPG gaming too.
The mobile support may seem like a gimmick at first, but it’s a damn good one. Being able to keep my phone or tablet in eye shot while working and gaming is a huge advantage. Not only does it make it easy to use tracking apps with many popular games, it also allows me to monitor my system performance, chat clients and more on the fly. Being able to tap a button and type using the keyboard to respond to Facebook and SMS messages is a joy and I don’t even have to tab out of my game to do it. The best part, however, is that I can answer a phone call using on-keyboard controls, and use my PC gaming headset for the call, even while I’m in the middle of a PC game; now that’s a nice feature to have!
The build quality is rock solid, beaten out only by the stylish design. The addition of braided cables, a detachable wrist rest, RGB lighting and more only help sweeten an already solid package and while it is expensive, you do feel like you’re getting an awful lot for your money.
