Roccat Vire ROC-14-200 Mobile Communication Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts
I was sceptical about a headset that is actually in-ear headphones and I still am. To me it just doesn’t add up. To market a product such as the Vire as a full on gaming headset seems just as strange, as they by design can’t really compete with a proper headset or real ear canal in-ear designs.
Having said that, Roccat have taken an interesting angle and filled a gap in the market previously empty. They have produced a good quality headset with a fantastic microphone and reasonable sound quality to suit a variety of uses, from gaming or communicating on the go, to listing to your tunes on your MP3 player, all with one product.
Sadly because of that, while the Vire are good at many things, they excel at nothing. Pretty much any real headset will provide better sound quality. And similarly priced in-ear designs provide a better overall experience, despite having no microphone.
Their redeeming feature then, is the price. Available from as little as £15.99, they are a genuine bargain. I don’t think you will find anything of higher build or sound quality or features for less anywhere and its for that reason that I’d recommend them if this was the kind of product you were after.
Pros:
- Lightweight design
- Reasonably comfortable
- Great value
- Good microphone
Cons:
- Very poor bass response
- Not fantastic build quality
- No volume control
