Price
Stock for the Rosewill Galaxy-01 seems to be everywhere right now, from major retailers to vast amounts of eBay stores, so finding one shouldn’t be an issue. We shopped around and found one via Google for £39.99, but have seem them as high as £54.99. If you can get one for the former, it’s a pretty good deal, especially since it comes with so many pre-installed fans.
Overview
There’s a lot to love about this chassis given its respective price range, and despite the fact that it’s far from perfect, it delivered on its promises and turned out to create a much better build that we had expected. Let’s get the rough stuff out of the way first though. The front panel is a little over aggressive and uses far too much plastic. The top panel design is really slick and has some nice mesh, but doesn’t really match up with the front panel design. It’s nice that there’s a slide-out dust filter for the PSU, but the mesh ventilation on the front panel is going to require more effort to keep clean, so taking off the front panel and giving it a good hoover will likely be a weekly task.
The core design is fine, all the right features are here. Little things have been compromised to save money, such as the interior cables looking cheap and nasty, although since we can’t see them without a side panel window, I wouldn’t let it bother you. Then we’ve got those cheap snap-off PCI-E bay covers, but again, two replacement screw-in ones are included in the box to plug the holes, so I wouldn’t be too bothered about that either. Cable routing options aren’t robust, but there’s just about enough of it. The CPU power cable doesn’t route correctly, but it’s a problem that was easily navigated and shouldn’t put off first time builders. Overall, minor issues with easy work around to help soften the blow.
Build quality is about what we expected, relatively thin panels, lots of moulded plastics and not much else. It feels pretty robust though, so the core frame is nice and strong despite the lightweight feel of the chassis. For this price range, I wouldn’t expect anything more or less from any other brand and you can expect to pay 50% more before seeing any major improvement here.
Pros
Cons
“The Rosewill Galaxy-01 has a lot to offer for those on a tighter budget. For a recognisable brand name chassis, complete with three pre-installed fans, the Galaxy-01 is a real cost saver and a very competitive wallet friendly chassis. Ideal for the first-time builders out there.”
