I’m not really sure what to make of this one personally, as turning tablets into a handheld gaming device always seems to end up looking ridiculous, the Wikipad is no different in my eyes. Yet it’s not without its merits and that ugly design (again, that’s my opinion) is due to a certain level of functionality.
The device features a reasonably sized 7″ screen, which does mean its not as big and chunky as it looks, it also features two full sized analogue sticks which are vital for many modern games and their are plenty of great Android FPS and racing games that will put them to good use, It also features a full D-Pad and four main face control buttons, forward facing speakers and more so its a real contender for a gaming platform and it has very similar specifications as the Ouya console, albeit in a portable format.
Set to launch at around $249 this spring its not the cheapest device here, nor the most powerful but it is an interesting concept that has garnered a lot of attention since its unveiling at CES.
