RPCS3 Gets Performance Boost with Vulkan API

RPCS3 Gets Performance Boost with Vulkan API

The development of PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 is making incredible progress. The latest video released by the emulator’s development team demonstrates big performance improvements. Not only has the emulator been able to run a selection of retail games, but that number is growing steadily.

The big news today, however, is the updated Vulkan renderer. The released video shows a fantastic comparison between the old API and the new one. The performance improvements are significant, with some games doubling their framerates. There’s still a long way to go in terms of rendering optimisations, and bug fixes, and a whole lot more. However, they’re on the right track to getting that fixed sooner than later.

The improvements are awesome, as you’ll see in the video below. It features Catherine, Demon’s Souls, Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Digimon: All-Star Rumble and Tekken Tag Tournament HD.

We can’t wait to see what the team comes up with in their next update. Of course, we’re happy to enjoy the latest update first. Who knows, perhaps we’ll get to play games like The Last of Us sooner than we thought!
