RTX 4070 SUPER Vs RX 7800 XT in 42 Gaming Benchmarks!

Back in October of last year, we pitted the RX 7800 XT from AMD against the RTX 4070 from NVIDIA and the results were pretty conclusive with the 7800 XT being the better buy at both 1080p and 1440p and by quite some margin too, but with the 4070 SUPER now released, and offering up more performance to the tune of around 12%, is it enough to fend off AMD and provide better value for money overall? That’s what we’re going to find out in a total of 42 games at 3 resolutions!

RTX 4070 SUPER Vs RX 7800 XT

So the RTX 4070 SUPER is one of the new kids on the block that forms part of the new SUPER series of cards from NVIDIA with higher core counts, more performance and the same $599 price tag. Now considering when we put the RTX 4070 against the 7800 XT from AMD, Team Green ended up falling short when it came to bang for buck, so even with the same price tag, the extra performance should definitely help to bridge the gap, especially as AMD had a 24% lead over NVIDIA in terms of cost per frame at 1440p, but with game and driver updates coming thick and fast, and NVIDIA having the upper hand in terms of Ray Tracing, this could all change quite dramatically and bring the fight even closer to each other, especially as the 7800 XT comes in $100 cheaper than the 4070 SUPER at $499, so this should be a good one.

Test Bench

So to get straight into it, we put both cards onto our GPU testbench consisting of an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D on a Gigabyte B650E AORUS MASTER with 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB 6000MHz CL30 dual channel memory. All of our testing was done on Windows 11 with the latest updates applied, and with the latest BIOS revision for the motherboard. The driver used was NVIDIA’s 555.15 driver and AMD’s 24.1.1 driver and we tested in 42 games in total of which we’ll be focussing on about 15 today before jumping into the percentage differences of all 42 games. We’ll be showing 1080p, 1440p and 4K results today but our focus will be on 1080p and 1440p as that’s where these cards are aimed at in the market. We’ll also be looking at the cost per frame too, though as always, if you want to check out all of the charts for all games, they’ll be available to our Patreon supporters, where you’ll get a ton of other cool exclusive benefits. The link for that is as always down below.

So with that out of the way, let’s get into those glorious benchmarks.
