RTX 4080 Game Crash Cost CS2 Pro’s a $1.25 Million Win

Esports tournaments can make some sizeable winnings for those that are really at the top of the game, there’s a lot on the line and any mistake can be costly but sometimes unavoidable as CS 2 Pro Team found out after one of their players encountered a game crash costing them the $1.25 Million prize money.

RTX 4080 Crashes During CS 2 Tournament

Via PCGAMESN, pro team Virtus Pro and G2 were in the middle of a round of CS2 at the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen where a hardware problem was encountered costing Virtus Pro a possible win. Player Jame experienced a GPU driver crash mid-round which pushed the round to the favour of their competitors G2 leading to the team to lose 11-13.

This is quite an unfortunate incident for the team as they then went on to lose the tie break match as well. The tournament hosts PGL eSports confirmed the incident in a tweet following the match and stated they were investigating the matter.

The systems in use for the tournament are fine tuned to offer the best CS2 performance for the pro players as well as a fair playing field across the board so this could’ve happened to any of the systems being used. It’s just unfortunate that it happened at all and it’s likely it was just a momentary blip.

Fortunately, Jame of G2, despite the misfortune, was a good sport and stated “Something similar also happened in a match against spirit, but in my memory this has happened many times, so when you have another map ahead, you should not give into your emotions and blame the game, or PGL, or start arguing… we had to accept it as is and move on”. If Jame can lose out so majorly here and keep cool without raging, then I think gamers who throw hissy fits when they lose need to think about how low the stakes are when they actually lose compared to this.
