RTX 4090 PC Case Compatibility Guide

I've seen a few folks on YouTube and reddit who have their hands on an Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card and are shocked to find out the damn thing doesn't fit in their PC case. Such as the one below, where an Aorus Master card doesn't fit in the 0-11 Dynamic from Lian Li. Well, not unless you mount it vertically! However, this got me thinking, if these cards are so bloody big, how many cases out there are there that do support this case? Important, Please Read! Now, admittedly, I don't have all these cases to hand. I emailed a bunch of companies, and they all have their own way of capturing these metrics. Some brands will have cards and cases and will have tested, some will whip out a ruler and guess, and others will be going off 3rd hand information. Even then, they may disclose if a fan has to be removed from the case, or not, and they may not detail if the hard will only go in horizontally or on an included vertical bracket. If that's not complicated enough, I'm certain the information provided covers the RTX 4090 Founders Edition, but some brands have also given me information about custom cards too! Unfortunately, there's bugger all I can do about the erratic nature of this at the moment, but at least with me asking, I can compile what information I do have that otherwise may not be clearer to all consumers. Hopefully, this will help steer you in the right direction if you're planning on getting an RTX 4090, and/or a new PC case. The Founders Edition is only 304mm long, meaning the biggest cards, such as those from ASUS and Gigabyte are a whopping 54.5mm longer still, and they'll be wider and/or thicker too... Crikey! Not only have they confirmed which cases are compatible, but they've also even measured up all the major models from various Nvidia partners, including ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac! I'll list below all of the models which support the Founders Edition. However, keep in mind that the Striker and the Dark Cube are the only two that are only compatible with the Founders Edition, while all the others listed support any of the models in the chart above. The be quiet! range thankfully is pretty broad these days, and they've got some pretty big cases in their range. They provided me with their specifications in millimetres and even included details on if they'll fit with or without the HDD cages, which are still in the front of the case on many of their models. Given that the Nvidia RTX 4090 Founders Edition has a length of 304mm, the MSI 4090 TRIO has a length of 337mm, and the ASUS 4090 ROG STRIX OC even hits 358mm, it looks like all their cases will do the job. However, The 500 FX, 500 DX and 500 are clearly a concern for those larger after-market ones, so I'd stick with a Founders Edition for these models for sure. Corsair It's no surprise that with corsair being one of the biggest names around, they've got the coolest way to check if you're buying compatible hardware! They have the Custom PC configurator, so people can double-check for themselves on case compatibility and size. They're doing my job for me, basically! I spoke to one of their team though, and they said that looking at something like the Gigabyte’s AORUS GeForce RTX 4090 Master 24G, which is the biggest card we know of at 359mm long, it should fit in anything that’s a 4000 series and above chassis, but only just, it really is a freaking massive 4-slot card, so front fans will be OK, but a front radiator? Cooler Master Cooler Master is a great brand, and they already have an impressive range of large PC cases. It's not surprising that the Cooler Master HAF 700 EVO E-ATX will fit the largest GPUs on the market, as it's one of the biggest cases on the market, it's a monster that will eat GPUs for breakfast. Oh and yeah, that also includes the utterly bonkers HAF 700 Berserker edition will fit it too (see our review below). That being said, moving down the range to some of their more affordable models, you'll still find good support for the new RTX 4090 series. InWin InWin has one of the most unique case lineups on the market, mostly due to a range of hyper-expensive and completely bonkers special editions. However, here on planet Earth where consumers are concerned, they have a solid range of cool PC cases. Thankfully, it looks like their fantastic 515 series and 127 series will support those new graphics cards, as they're slightly longer than most PC cases. The 515 will handle 385mm GPUs while the 127 is 345mm but 370mm with the fan moved. However, InWin also confirmed that their very unique Airforce is also compatible. NZXT With NZXT being one of the most popular enthusiast PC case brands, it's good to see that they have pretty broad support across many of their PC cases. Now, keep in mind, many of these support a vertical GPU mount too, giving you more options to install. I suspect the H5xx series cases will be tight though, and certainly will remove the option to add a radiator to the front panel, so keep that in mind. I am (maybe) allowed to tell you that they have one more case on the way soon that will definitely fit the larger cards, but unfortunately, an NDA means I can't say much more right now... other than "coming soon!" However, they've also got some real monsters too, with the Nyx Pro, Eris Evo and Enyo offering up some of the largest and most unique-looking cases on the market today! With that in mind, their full-tower cases are somewhere between high-end cases and open-air test benches, giving them vast amounts of room for next-gen hardware. They're also surprisingly modular and customisable too, so getting a big GPU into one of these titan-sized cases is unlikely to cause you any concern. Thermaltake Thermaltake is notorious for having largest cases than most. They've often got wider case designs than most of their rivals too, which is great for custom loop cooling and other modifications, but now, it's a huge benefit for these massive graphics cards too! Unfortunately, we don't have specific details from Thermaltake, so I'm going to assume for the most part this is purely compatible with Founders Editions. However, it will come as little surprise to Thermaltake fans that even the biggest aftermarket cards, such as the one from ASUS, will fit with ease. I've often joked in many of my Thermaltake reviews that there's TOO MUCH space, and often fill them with novelty items such as headset stands, keyboards, teddy bears, and even a toolbox. Nobody ever says anything about my antic, so perhaps this is the normal way to use the space? This is good news for RTX 4090 owners though, as there are more Thermaltake cases compatible with the new Nvidia cards than some other brands have combined; just look at that list!
