The RTX 4090 graphics card has experienced a significant price increase as the highly anticipated RTX 5090 series launch draws near. In addition, several major retailers have halted sales of the card, prompting questions about its future availability in the market.
Rising Prices of the RTX 4090
Since rumors of the imminent RTX 5090 launch surfaced, the price of the RTX 4090 has spiked dramatically. For instance, the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 4090 at Newegg now costs around $2,700, with prices for other models exceeding $3,500, and in some cases, reaching as high as $3,700.
On platforms like Amazon, many models have been essentially discontinued. If you’re fortunate enough to find any remaining stock, prices now start at $2,500.
Price Surge Due to Scarcity and Production Halt
Typically, we expect prices to drop as the current generation of graphics cards nears the end of its lifecycle, clearing out inventory before the release of new models. However, the situation with the RTX 4090 is the complete opposite. A production and distribution halt that began in October and November has caused a significant price hike due to the card’s scarcity, with focus shifting to the upcoming RTX 5090 release.
