News of the PlayStation 4 NEO has been pretty thin recently, with Sony teasing that they have the new console, likely to steal thunder from the recently launched Xbox One S and the upcoming Nintendo NX, but where is the hardware? The rumour mill is grinding hard today, as GameBlog suggest that Sony is planning a very special event on the 7th September in New York and that’s a pretty big deal.
The PlayStation 4 was revealed in New York, so that’s our first flag right there that this is the NEO reveal. It was expected that it would be on display at the Tokyo Game Show, but with Sony likely wanting to avoid a clash with the new Nintendo hardware, and ensure all eyes are on them, it would make more sense that they would hold a dedicated event.
Previous leaks have shown us that the new console will bring 4K display support and higher frame rates, basically the same as what we’ve seen from the Xbox One S. It’s also a safe bet to see the console getting a redesign and slimmed down to match the Microsoft offerings. This would also mean UHD BluRay support or else Sony would be behind the market in terms of features.
Other reports suggest that games would be available from around October and it’s obvious to anyone that Sony are setting their sights on a pre-Christmas release window to reap the holiday sales.
Let’s hope Sony is cooking up something good here, and you can bet we’ll be on top of all the news as soon as the reveal date approaches.
