Spacewalk and trip to the ISS for sale. £70m OVNO. It sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what Russia is considering as a means of raising funds to support future trips to space and the ISS.
For just £70m you could be able to take a trip on the rocket to the Internation Space Station and in addition, possibly be the first civilian to make a spacewalk.
In a report via SkyNews, for the low, low, price of just £70m you could take a trip to the Internation Space Station and in an unprecedented step, take an actual spacewalk.
Spacewalks are incredibly dangerous. The problem is, however, that space tourism is in a major decline with a ‘tourist’ not taking a trip since 2009. Nearly 10 years now!
Vladimir Solntsev, the president of Russia’s space company Energia (which is partly state-owned) said that Russia is “discussing the possibility of sending tourists on spacewalks. Market analysts have confirmed [that] wealthy people are ready to pay money for this”.
The Russian Space Agency is currently the only which has offered ‘tourist’ space packages. Although private US companies are still exploring the possibilities. One such company being Elon Musk‘s Rocket X.
The real cherry on the cake they are offering here is the opportunity to perform a spacewalk. It’s hard to imagine what that would be like. Taking a selfie literally in space.
The RSA has said that they hope to have some system in place to accommodate these trips as early as 2019, so if you are tempted, there is still time to save.
What do you think? Is this a good idea to create investment in space? Could tourism become a usual thing? – Let us know in the comments!
