It is known for sometime now that AMD is planning to release a refresh of its current Ryzen CPU product line. Now a SiSoft Sandra database entry for a Ryzen 5 2600 serves as the most solid proof that these are coming soon. The SiSoft Sandra database is of course, a familiar spot for seeing early leaks. This is because of its widespread use among testers and since many forget to turn off the built-in live ranking feature even under NDA. Thanks to the fellow on the other end who ran the benchmark on an ASUS X470 Crosshair VII Motherboard (that is also yet to be announced), we have an idea of what to expect soon.
The original Ryzen 5 processor line came out in April 2017. The new platform will most likely be ready for launch come April 2018, marking a year since. These new Ryzen CPUs will also feature architecture refinements using 12nm Zen+ rather than the 14nm Zen currently used today. From the figures on the SiSoft Sandra database, it appears that a modest MHz bump is in order as well.
The Ryzen 5 2600 in comparison to the1600 retains the 6-core/12-thread configuration. It keeps the 19MB L2+L3 cache config as well. The base clock however, is now starting at 3.4GHz instead of 3.6GHz. Naturally, the boost clock also gets a 200MHz bump from 3.6GHz to 3.8GHz. This would actually put it right in between the Ryzen 5 1600 and the 1600X. That is strictly in terms of clock speeds. Although it is not explicitly stated, the TDP is also 65W judging by the product code ID.
The motherboard is obviously from ASUS’ Republic of Gamers family. The Crosshair VI Hero is one of the first and most popular AM4 X370 motherboards in the market, so a followup with an X470 chipset just makes sense. How much different it is than the current X370 version is yet to be seen however. Although, it will most likely have some stark differences from the Crosshair VI if ASUS wants it to sell.
More leaks are sure to come out even before that April launch date comes. So we would just have to wait and see what else shakes out. Pricing information for example, would be highly interesting, especially in light of recent price cuts.
