Gaming Performance
This is one of the most important tests of all, gaming! The results are pretty mixed here, it’s hard to know where to start. For 1080p gaming, the scores are impressive and show some attractive gains in most of the benchmarks. However, some of the CPUs actually performed a little worse this time around. the 1600X once scored 144.3 FPS, but dropped to 103.9 FPS, which is pretty drastic. 4K performance appears to have taken a hit also, especially in Tomb Raider for the Ryzen 5 1400, dropping almost 10 FPS.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, far from it. The Ryzen 7’s showed nice gains in Deus EX and Tomb Raider, even surpassing the 2700X at 4K, albeit by about 0.5 FPS. Ghost Recon was a mixed bag, but still delivering great performance and the 1700X still maintained a strong lead. The overall winner, however, is Far Cry, which saw improvements over the first gen on every CPU.
