ASUS China’s General Manager, Tony Yu, recently shared his impressive overclocking tests of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, pushing the CPU to an extreme 6.9 GHz using liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. These tests included a range of games and applications, producing astounding results with the processor achieving over 1,300 FPS in Counter-Strike 2 and up to 2,000 FPS in Valorant.
Unprecedented Performance on the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene
Running on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU and 32 GB of DDR5-6000 (CL30) memory, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D achieved 30,513 points in Cinebench R23, marking a 36% increase over previous tests. Despite surpassing its 120W TDP to reach 200W in benchmarks, the CPU maintained a low 100W in gaming tests, showcasing its efficiency even at these extreme speeds.
In Counter-Strike 2, the CPU averaged 1262.9 FPS at 1080p max settings, rivaling Intel’s Core i9-14900K, which achieved similar FPS but at a much higher 8 GHz and power consumption. Valorant also showed impressive numbers, with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D achieving over 2,000 FPS in character selection and an average of close to 1,100 FPS during gameplay. Tony Yu highlighted the efficiency of the Zen 5 architecture and second-generation 3D V-Cache, noting the CPU’s performance at such low power levels is exceptional.
With most esports gamers playing at 1080p, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D’s ability to deliver high frame rates is set to pair well with next-gen GPUs and monitors that support refresh rates over 600Hz. This processor is designed to meet the demands of competitive gaming, offering frame rates that align with the latest hardware trends.
