Saints Row 2022 which currently has an Epic Exclusive deal will soon be ending and the game could be seen on Steam very soon.
Saints Row 2022 was a reboot of the iconic franchise which received a fairly negative reception from fans who were wanting something more in line with the first two games in the series. A page for the game has been spotted in the SteamDB by u/m1n3c7afty on Reddit which shows the game named Project Athena” to have been renamed to Saints Row at 2:21 this morning. The game launched in August 2022 which means we are 3 months away from its year anniversary which is what we would likely expect to be the end of the Epic Games Exclusive contract, though with the Steam Database being updated this soon it is possible we could be seeing the game on Steam sooner than August.
I haven’t had the pleasure of playing the game simply because the reviews didn’t look so great, especially as a long-time Saints Row fan. When the trailer launched I had the same reaction as most people with the keywords being “Fortnite graphics”, “Terrible” and “Gen Z rubbish” which I am a part of. Following the release of the gameplay trailer, I did change my tune a bit and thought that the game looked fun and took upon the good wacky aspects which made both Saints Row 3 and 4 genuinely enjoyable games despite being wildly different from the 1st and 2nd games. Unfortunately based on the reviews the game wasn’t any of that and instead was just a soulless claim to modernise a classic title. To top it off it really made itself look modern by releasing as a buggy mess. Maybe I’ll give it a go but it will have to be at a good price so for now, Epic can keep it but I’d gladly welcome a Saints Row 2 Remaster that fixes the terrible Steam port with open arms.
