While it’s true that Saints Row IV could not really hold a candle to Grand Theft Auto V, the game still enjoyed a warm reception, and it received its fair share of attention for a while. However, since the title did not provide proper mod support, it eventually faded into the background, only to make an appearance once more three years after it was released. Thanks to a dedicated modding community, Saints Row IV has now received official Steam Workshop support, which means that we’re likely to see quite a few interesting projects in the next few weeks. Moreover, it looks like the game’s publisher, Deep Silver, had a few words to say about this new addition:
“There were many challenges in implementing Steam Workshop functionality since the game was not originally designed to support modding. It was all a labor of love for developer Deep Silver Volition who worked directly with the modding community to develop the modding tools and adapt the game code. This was all built for the fans who have shown an incredible amount of passion and creativity over the years, and we can’t wait to see what kind of crazy content they come up with.”
There are already a few mods available for Saint Row IV, including a flamethrower guitar and several new outfits. You can visit the Steam Workshop right now if you want to browse through some of the other offerings.
