Samsung has been dominating the high-end NVMe market and products like the SM951 remain extraordinarily popular for premium builds. Not only that, the company has a wonderful array of SATA-based drives which beautifully balance performance, reliability, and cost per gigabyte. Back in September, Samsung announced the 960 EVO series which employs the M.2 form factor and NVMe protocol. Interestingly, the 960 EVO targets a more affordable price point than the PRO range at around $0.50/GB. In terms of capacities, the cheaper solution comes with 250GB of storage and retails for $129.99 while the 500GB version costs $249.99. If you require a huge amount of fast storage, it’s possible to acquire a 1TB unit for $479.99.
On another note, the 250GB model offers sequential reads up to 3200MB/s and 1500MB/s writes. Also, the 500GB size can reach the same read speeds as the 250GB and a slightly faster write rate of 1800MB/s. The flagship 1TB drive once again maintains the 3200MB/s maximum read and can achieve writes up to 1900MB/s. As you might expect, all of the NVMe drives use Samsung’s 3D V-NAND flash memory which allows for such a wonderful level of performance. Thankfully, the devices in question are available to pre-order from leading retailers.
